Germany’s new High-Tech Strategy aims at moving the country forward on its way to becoming a worldwide innovation leader. The goal is to translate good ideas into innovative products and services quickly, and, consequently, strengthen Germany’s position as a leading industrial and exporting nation.
With the High-Tech Strategy, the German Federal Government has defined six thematic priorities in research and innovation which will be in the focus for funding until at least 2020:
- Digital economy and society
- Sustainable economy and energy
- Innovative workplace
- Healthy living
- Intelligent mobility
- Civil security
Perennial funding programmes are established around these six focus areas, open to all interested entities to apply for funding, from large multinational companies, Small- and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SME’s), and research organisations located in Germany.
Additionally, SME’s are very much the focus of the government’s efforts to promote innovation – notably through the Central Innovation Programme for SMEs (ZIM), which is technology-neutral.
