Challenge

Kiron University is a Berlin-based open education start-up with a mission to enable access to free higher education for refugees. Kiron serves students who seek better lives after escaping Syria and other war-torn countries by helping them continue their higher education without bureaucratic procedural delays and language barriers. To realize its mission, Kiron is dependent on public and private funding support.

Approach

In early 2016, a connection between Kiron management and LNE Group was established through personal contacts. LNE Group believes in the power of education to create economic opportunity and therefore chose to support Kiron’s mission with gratis European Union and German government funding pursuit support.

Result

In the first half of 2016, LNE Group supported the development and submittal of three applications targeting both European Union and German national-level funding opportunities. As a result, a funding of more than 2 million EUR from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has been secured for Kiron and its partner universities RWTH Aachen and the University of Applied Sciences Lübeck. This funding will help Kiron increase their footprint to empower more displaced people with free education. (Please also see: LNE Group helps Kiron to secure funding)
